Formward vs Tally

Tally is a hosted form builder: you design forms in their app and embed them. Formward takes a different approach — it is a backend for the HTML form you already control. If you want to keep your own markup and need a GDPR-clean, EU-hosted place for submissions to land, the deciding factors are control over the form and where the data lives. Formward self-hosts in Sweden, captures consent with stored proof, and ships a DSAR console. Here is an honest, factual comparison.

We keep the Tally column qualitative on purpose. Their feature set and pricing change over time, and we will not present a competitor snapshot as fixed fact. The numbers in the Formward column are our real, current numbers. Where we are unsure of a Tally specific, we say to check their site.

The core difference: your HTML, EU residency

Formward

  • Backend for your own HTML form; you keep the markup.
  • Self-hosted in Sweden; EU sub-processors.
  • GDPR consent capture with stored proof.
  • DSAR console for export and cross-form erasure.
  • Submitter IPs pseudonymised (salted HMAC) on receipt.

Tally

  • Hosted, no-code form builder.
  • Great if you want drag-and-drop forms; for EU residency and GDPR-specific details, check their current documentation.
  • The trade-off is using their builder and hosting rather than your own HTML.

Frequently asked questions

Is Formward the same kind of product as Tally?
Not quite, and that is the point. Tally is a hosted form builder where you design forms in their interface. Formward is a form backend for the HTML you already own: you keep full control of the markup, styling, and behaviour, and point the <form action> at a Formward endpoint.
What is the main difference from Tally?
Where the form lives and where the data is stored. With Formward you ship your own HTML form and the data is stored in the EU (Sweden) with EU sub-processors, plus GDPR consent capture and a DSAR console. For Tally's current hosting and EU-residency specifics, check their site.
I want a no-code builder. Is Formward for me?
If you specifically want a drag-and-drop builder with no HTML, a hosted builder may suit you better. If you already have a form on your site (or want full control of the markup) and mainly need a GDPR-clean, EU-hosted place for the submissions to land, Formward is built for exactly that.
How does consent capture work?
Enable a consent checkbox per form. On submit, Formward snapshots the exact consent text the visitor agreed to plus a timestamp as proof. The text is taken server-side from the form, never trusted from the client.
How are submitter IP addresses handled?
We pseudonymise submitter IPs with a salted HMAC immediately on receipt and never store them raw. They are used for abuse protection, not tracking.
How much does Formward cost?
Formward starts free with 50 submissions per month. Paid plans start at EUR 15/month (Personal), with Professional at EUR 30/month and Business at EUR 90/month. Yearly billing is cheaper per month.
