Formward vs Formspree
Formspree is a well-established form backend, and for many teams it does the job. If you are an EU business, or you simply want your form data to stay in the EU, the deciding factor is usually where the data lives. Formward is hosted in Sweden, GDPR-clean by default, and built so that your form-submission data never leaves the EU/EEA. (Billing runs through Stripe, as with most EU SaaS; Stripe never sees your form data.) Here is an honest, factual look at how the two compare.
We keep the Formspree column qualitative on purpose. Their feature set and pricing change over time, and we will not present a competitor snapshot as fixed fact. The numbers in the Formward column are our real, current numbers.
The core difference: jurisdiction
Formward
- Hosted in Sweden, in EU data centres.
- Every form-submission sub-processor is located in the EU.
- Your form-submission data never leaves the EU/EEA by design.
- Submitter IPs hashed on receipt; AI processing stays in the EU.
- Billing runs through Stripe (like most EU SaaS); Stripe never sees your form data.
Formspree
- US-based service running on US infrastructure.
- Subject to EU-US data-transfer scrutiny under the GDPR when handling EU personal data.
- A capable, mature product; the trade-off for EU users is data location and transfer governance.

Frequently asked questions
- Is Formward a drop-in alternative to Formspree?
- Yes. Formward gives you an HTML form endpoint that accepts standard POST submissions, so you point your existing <form action> at a Formward URL and it works. There is no SDK to install and it is framework-agnostic.
- What is the main difference from Formspree?
- Jurisdiction. Formward is hosted in Sweden, every form-submission sub-processor is in the EU, and we have designed the Service so your form-submission data never leaves the EU/EEA. (Billing is handled by Stripe, as with most EU SaaS, and Stripe never receives form data.) Formspree is a US-based service running on US infrastructure, which brings EU-US data-transfer considerations for the form data itself under the GDPR.
- Why does EU hosting matter for forms?
- Form submissions usually contain personal data such as names, email addresses, and messages. Keeping that data inside the EU/EEA reduces the legal complexity of international transfers and is often the simplest path to a clean GDPR posture for an EU business.
- Do you offer a Data Processing Agreement?
- Yes. A DPA is available on request from privacy@formward.eu, and our sub-processors are documented in our Privacy Policy.
- How are submitter IP addresses handled?
- We hash submitter IP addresses (SHA-256) immediately on receipt and never store them in raw form. They are used for abuse protection, not tracking.
- How much does Formward cost?
- Formward starts free with 50 submissions per month. Paid plans start at EUR 15/month (Personal), with Professional at EUR 30/month and Business at EUR 90/month. Yearly billing is cheaper per month.
