Formward vs FormKeep

FormKeep is a form backend operated by FormKeep, Inc., and its site footer dates it back to 2014. Like Formward, it takes a POST from your own HTML form, filters spam, stores the submissions and sends notifications, and it connects to Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier and webhooks.

Its prices are low: the Essential plan is $4.99 a month for 1,000 submissions, and FormKeep is cheaper per submission than Formward on every paid tier. The question for an EU team is location. FormKeep's privacy policy, terms and DPA name no hosting provider, no country and no transfer mechanism, so you would have to ask FormKeep before you could document where your submissions go. Formward stores and processes them in Sweden and lists its sub-processors publicly.

Last checked 7 October 2026. Every statement about FormKeep on this page comes from FormKeep's own website, listed under Sources. Where we could not confirm something, the table says "Not checked" rather than guessing. Prices and plans change, so confirm them on their site before you decide. EU, GDPR and data location

FormKeep's privacy policy says it relies on third-party vendors and hosting partners for hardware, storage and networking, without naming them or saying where they are. Its DPA refers to sub-processors but does not list them, and none of the three documents mentions Standard Contractual Clauses or another transfer mechanism. With a US operator and no stated location, an EU controller would need those answers from FormKeep before documenting the transfer.

Formward stores and processes form submissions in the EU: the application and database run at Hostup AB in Sweden, notification email goes out through Mailjet in the EU, and AI features on Professional and Business use Mistral AI in France. One optional sub-processor is outside the EU: Cloudflare Turnstile (US), which only sees the anti-bot challenge and only on forms where you enable it. Data leaves the EU when you send it there yourself, for example to a notification mailbox hosted by a US provider, a Google Sheets sync or a webhook URL.

The details are in Formward's sub-processor register, the DPA (accepted in the dashboard) and the transfer-impact statement.

Moving from FormKeep

Effort: Low. What changes:

  • The form action: https://formkeep.com/f/... becomes your Formward endpoint.
  • FormKeep's _redirect_url field becomes _redirect, or you set the redirect on the Formward form.
  • Add a hidden _gotcha field if you want Formward's honeypot.
  • Changing the endpoint only moves new submissions. Past submissions, integrations, autoresponses and notification settings stay at FormKeep until you export or recreate them.

Before: FormKeep

<form action="https://formkeep.com/f/YOUR_FORM_ID" method="POST">
  <input type="email" name="email" required>
  <textarea name="message" required></textarea>
  <input type="hidden" name="_redirect_url" value="https://example.com/thanks">
  <button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>

After: Formward

<form action="https://forms.formward.eu/f/<formId>" method="POST">
  <input type="email" name="email" required>
  <textarea name="message" required></textarea>
  <input type="hidden" name="_redirect" value="/thanks">
  <input type="text" name="_gotcha" style="display:none" tabindex="-1" autocomplete="off">
  <button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>
  1. Create a form in the Formward dashboard and copy its endpoint.
  2. Replace the FormKeep URL in your form's action or fetch call.
  3. Rename _redirect_url to _redirect, or set the success redirect on the form.
  4. Recreate notifications, autoresponses and integrations in Formward, and check which plan each one needs.
  5. Add your site's origin to the allowed origins, send a test entry and check the dashboard and the notification email.
  6. Export past submissions as CSV from FormKeep's Reports tab and bring them in with Formward's CSV importer (Dashboard, Import & migrate). If the export has a Submitted At or Created At column the original dates are kept; otherwise rows are dated at import time.

Which one fits

Choose Formward for

  • EU teams that need to say where submissions are stored and who processes them.
  • Forms that need consent proof and a public sub-processor register.
  • Buyers who would rather be billed in euros.

Choose FormKeep for

  • High volumes on a tight budget, where price per submission matters most.
  • Teams without EU data-location requirements.

Questions

Where does FormKeep store submissions?
Its privacy policy, terms and DPA do not say. The privacy policy mentions third-party hosting partners without naming them or their location. If that matters to you, ask FormKeep directly. Formward stores and processes submissions in Sweden.
Is moving from FormKeep a lot of work?
Not for the form itself: change the action URL, rename _redirect_url to _redirect and send a test. Integrations, autoresponses and past submissions do not move with the endpoint; recreate the first two in Formward and import the history from a CSV export.
Is there a Data Processing Agreement?
Yes. Formward's DPA is published in full at formward.eu/dpa and you accept it in the dashboard, which records the version and the time. The current sub-processors, with location and purpose, are listed at formward.eu/compliance/subprocessors.
How much does Formward cost?
Formward has a free plan with 50 submissions a month. Paid plans are EUR 15 a month (Personal, 200 submissions), EUR 30 (Professional, 2,000) and EUR 90 (Business, 20,000). Paying yearly brings those down to EUR 10, 20 and 60 a month.
