Donation forms

A donation form captures who gives, how much and why; the payment itself runs through a dedicated provider, never through a form field.

Plan this form

  1. Never collect card numbers, CVCs or bank credentials in a general form; link to the payment provider after submit
  2. Explain in one sentence how donor data is used, who sees it and for how long it is kept
  3. Separate recurring-interest and communication consent from the pledge itself, each with its own checkbox
  4. Ask for an amount or a tier, not free text only, so the pledge can be matched to the payment later
  5. Acknowledge by email with the organisation and the pledged amount: on Professional and above, enable the form's autoresponder and write its template yourself, inserting the submitted amount field; the default body is a generic thank-you, and the email's own date serves as the date

The form is the pledge, not the payment: collect the donor's name, email, the amount or tier and an optional message, and set the form's redirect URL in its settings to your payment page (a Stripe payment link, Swish, PayPal or a bank-transfer page). A classic HTML form then sends the donor there by itself, while the AJAX templates (React, Vue, Svelte, Next.js, Nuxt) receive the URL as the redirect property of the JSON response, so send the donor on from the success handler.
